Racial Notes – The Nopon

History in Brief

A species of unknown age, the Nopon are a friendly, if oddball race.  Round, roly, and bustling with energy, they busily manipulate pollen for their primary food source with their wings, all the while dancing with their penguin like wing arms and bobbing about on two feet.  The Nopon are thoroughly expressive and easily amused, living happily in the present and running from dangers as they come.    Serious minded Nopon still indulge their creative aspects as inventors or artists, but most find employment as traders, quests that spread goodwill for the Nopon and others.  When larger problems present themselves the local indebted finds himself the subject of a curious prophecy stating that he or she, as the Heropon, will save the community from harm.  

Requirements to Live

Nopon live comfortably gathering pollen and forming them into Nopon pollen orbs.  They need regular access to fresh water.  Nopon live vertically, and possess limited flight with their large wings mounted to their heads.  When threatened, they think nothing of climbing higher, and have a strong tolerance to vertigo.  Makna Forest is a dangerous place, and they don’t live without predators, but most find the Nopon too agile as climbers or too small to chase them through their narrow doors, crevices and cracks.  

Life Span

Nopon live just a little bit longer than Homs, and quite a bit less than the High Entia.  They live in every city on the Bionis (but not on the Mechonis), plying their trades as everything from skilled workers to layabouts.  

Attitude Towards Life

Life is too short, and the Nopon life to experience joy.  Family is as important to them as all others, and leads them to look for ways to help their family solve their problems and enjoy their lives too.  Few Nopon have the patience for soldiering, leading directly to the Heropon; the greatest of their number finding joy in their adventuring companions and hilarity in battling terrifying monsters.  Serious Nopon search for academic or leadership pursuits, they tend not to concern themselves much with politics.

Suggested Favoured Classes

Bard – Nopon favour a broad range of knowledge without specializing too narrowly.  They don’t take any fighting style too seriously, but can surprise the most confident of warriors. 

Barbarian – Nopon are intensely passionate.  The Barbarian’s boosted land speed and rage work well for the Nopon.

Stat Biases

Nopon favour charisma, because of their loose social structure and general preference for freedom makes it hard to lead by other means.  They favour dexterity to allow them to move nimbly up trees and dart through narrow passages to escape predators.
